About Angela…

As I started writing this about me page in the typical way, I realized it did not let you see my personality. In fact, it was stuffy, boring, and made me sound full of myself which is the opposite of how I show up in the world–warm, authentic, and non-judgmental is more my speed. As far as my education, I will include that at the bottom for those who are interested.

If you are wondering – why this non-traditional approach? it is important for you to have enough information to decide if working together will be the right fit for you or your family. Afterall, this is an investment, and the experience is all about you.

I believe you are the expert of your own life, and I am more like the tour guide. Tour Guide Warnings: Throughout the journey you may want to keep your hands and feet inside and kick off your shoes as your twirl about the cabin. You could experience crying, laughing, bursts of creativity or out of the box solutions to your problems. You could also experience more playfulness, and finally feel connection with your family or friends. Ultimately, increasing hope and joy in your life.

If you are still with me then hopefully you are smiling or laughing at the play off the Jungle Cruise reference and you are probably asking two things- a) Do you really get me and b) Can you really help me?

I AM NOT A ONE SIZE FITS ALL THERAPIST. I will not just sit in my chair with a smile and a nod. Instead, I will invite you to stretch your limits of comfort while we use interactive methods of play or activities. Why? First because accessing both sides of the brain at any age is effective. Also, Play is the universal language that connects people to their younger self, challenges perfectionism and improves relationships with their children. Also, I am just here to help you discover the answers that you already have within you.

Do you feel misunderstood and like you never quite fit in, which causes problems at school or your job? Do you feel panic when you’ve lost your keys or wallet for the second time this week? Do you have big dreams for your life, but you feel your confidence is shaky? Is your anxiety holding you back or keeping you stuck? Is trusting yourself a challenge? Have you been searching for your place in this world and the lack of connection is so lonely it is almost unbearable? Are you struggling with your health or are you tired of people telling you it is all in your head or just for attention? Do you struggle to feel that you deserve healthy relationships or never feel good enough? Are you tired of people telling you how you should be showing up in this world and starting to lose hope?

Parents: Are you a parent that feels defeated, exhausted and doesn’t know where to turn? Is your child anxious or melting down by the end of the school day? Does your child often go to the school nurse with stomach aches? Are you coping with a recent diagnosis of ADHD or Autism? Has your family experienced recent or sudden changes and your child is not adapting?

Are you an adult with chronic illness or pain? I have the flexibility to have appointments in person or virtually based on how you feel that day because I understand with chronic illness it is impossible to know how you will feel until you wake up.

If any of this describes you or your family, I can help. I have lived experiences that help me to relate to you in ways I otherwise couldn’t- as a child, as a parent, and as a professional. Also, I’m humble and wise enough to know your journey is unique and so your path to healing will be uniquely crafted to fit you. I will invite you to push past your comfort zone using both play and talk therapy (maybe even some parental coaching) so you can cultivate the life you imagine and meet your goals while moving at your own pace. I work with people who are tired of the heart-wrenching pain in their life and ready and willing to make some changes. However, I can’t change for you but if you show up and put in the hard work. I am excited to help guide and support you through the process.

Okay now for all the information on my education and approach in case you care to review it.

I graduated from the University of Kansas with my Bachelors in Social Work and my Park University with Masters in Social Work- with a clinical concentration in Behavioral Health (with a sub-concentration in military social work). Finally, I earned my certifications in AutPlay Therapy by Robert Jason Grant and my post-graduate certification in Play Therapy from Midwest Nazarene University. I am currently under clinical supervision towards LCSW and Play Therapy supervision under Carmey Goodwin so I will be recognized as a Registered Play Therapist.

I take a Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach to therapy and provide tools to improve an individual’s executive functioning with ADHD inattentive type. I am in the process of earning my Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist designation and enjoy supporting autistic individuals at any age.

I consult with families on child development and trauma-informed somatic approaches to parenting using the Whole Brain Child approach by Daniel Siegel. My approach to play therapy is more Adlerian but I also encompass Child-Centered and Theraplay into sessions to meet the child where they are at and what best fits their needs, while encouraging the child to let down their mask and show their authentic self.
